The leader of a Sunnyside/Woodside group who is planning on establishing an after-school program will be holding a fundraiser Saturday night.
Kenny Medrano, founder of Road to Greatness, aims to raise $50,000 in order to start a Sunnyside/Woodside-based program.
His fundraiser is scheduled to take place at the Courtyard Ale House, located at 40-18 Queens Blvd, at 9 pm November 14.
A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Road to Greatness (R2G). The group’s primary mission is to create tomorrow’s leaders and help children reach their full potential.
“We’re excited about having our first event in Sunnyside. This will be a great way to show the community our cause and our drive to help empower and equip local youth for a more successful future,” Medrano said.
Medrano established the organization to fill a void after noticing the disappearance of so many youth programs in the neighborhood.
Medrano plans to establish the after-school program at PS 199 in Sunnyside, beginning in 2016. His goal is to serve 100 children/teenagers by the end of next year.
He has experience in establishing after-school programs. Three years ago, he took a one day per week program in Queens and expanded it into a 6 day program.
