This holiday season, students and staff at the St. Francis Preparatory School have been working with the surrounding community on a number of projects to help those in need.

The school hosted its annual “party for our friends with special needs” Saturday, bringing together Queens residents who have special needs and their caretakers for food and holiday music — and each received a gift donated by students, staff and parish attendees.

Students and faculty also gathered with some St. Francis Prep alumni Dec.17 for a holiday celebration at the Blessed Virgin Mary Presentation Parish Soup Kitchen in Jamaica — serving hot Christmas meals and providing live music from the school’s chamber orchestra.

Students at St. Francis Prep, 61-00 Francis Lewis Blvd. in Fresh Meadows, also designed and sold custom shirts to celebrate Pope Francis’ recent birthday— the proceeds from which went toward the soup kitchen.

“All these things demonstrate how St. Francis Prep constantly looks outside its community to identify and help those in the broader community who might not be able to help themselves, or provide a special experience for them,” the school said in a statement.
