Veronica “Vicky Morales” Casella has been appointed by Borough President Melinda Katz to succeed newly elected City Councilman Barry Grodenchik as director of community boards. Casella will also serve as Katz’s director of parks and recreation and director of facilities.

As director of community boards, Casella will serve as Katz’s chief adviser on all matters concerning the 14 Queens community boards. She will also oversee the Borough Board and Borough Cabinet on behalf of Katz.

Katz has worked with Casella for more than two decades. “There is no one who brings a stronger combination of experience, efficacy and a demonstrated commitment to public service,” she said in a statement.

From 2010 to 2015, Casella served as chief of staff and district director to City Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz (D-Forest Hills). She previously served as chief of staff to Katz when she was on the City Council from 2001 to 2009 and from 1996 to 1998 when she was in the State Assembly.

She also served as special assistant for women’s issues and community board liaison under then Borough President Claire Shulman from 2000 to 2001. Casella received her bachelor’s degree from Queens College. A longtime resident of Queens, she lives in Flushing with her husband and three sons.

“It is a tremendous honor to be selected by Borough President Katz to help fulfill her vision in making Queens the best borough of families,” Casella said in a statement.
