Two weeks after being knocked out, the victim of an assault at a Ridgewood intersection has succumbed to his injuries, police announced on Tuesday.

Krzyszlot Zmitrowicz, 35, of Woodward Avenue died on Sunday afternoon at Elmhurst Hospital. According to published reports, he had been in a medically induced coma since being attacked on the morning of Nov. 15 at the corner of Fresh Pond Road and Linden Street.

According to police, the alleged assailant — Pawel Garwarski, 26, of Madison Street — struck Zmitrowicz in the face with an unknown object outside a deli at the intersection at about 4:30 a.m. The two men had become embroiled in a dispute before the assault occurred.

Zmitrowicz’s head hit the pavement as he fell to the ground, authorities said, causing a skull fracture and bleeding on the brain. Garwarski fled the scene following the attack southbound on Fresh Pond Road.

The 104th Precinct Detective Squad picked up Garwarski the day after the attack and charged him with multiple counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Court records indicate that he remains in custody on $250,000 bail.

Police reclassified the case as a homicide, and additional or upgraded charges against Garwarski are pending the results of the ongoing investigation.
