Whitestone teen slashed in face while walking to school

Cops continue to search for a man who slashed a 16-year-old girl in her face and throat Wednesday morning in Whitestone.

According to authorities, the unknown male approached the girl from behind at 8:16 a.m. near the intersection of 147th Street and 13th Avenue. He then sliced her with a box cutter, causing an injury to her left cheek and throat.

The suspect fled on foot west on 13th Avenue towards 146 Street. Officers from the 109th Precinct responded to the incident.

The victim is reportedly an exchange student from China and has been in the U.S. for eight months. She was transported to LIJ Children’s Hospital, where she was treated and is in stable condition.

Police said the suspect was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with a black hood and black stripes on the sleeves; according to published reports, he was also wearing a surgical mask and surgical gloves.
