No. 7 train delays after broken rail at Hunters Point Ave.

By Madina Toure

A broken rail south of Hunters Point Avenue caused extensive delays on No. 7 trains Monday morning, the MTA said.

No. 7 trains were not running between Times Square and Queensborough Plaza in both directions.

At about 9 a.m. at the 74th Street/Broadway station, straphangers were alerted that the Manhattan-bound 7 train was not running. The Queens-bound 7 train was running, but slowly.

Passengers were advised to use other trains. Crowds could be seen coming down the stairs from the Manhattan-bound 7 train platform to connect with other trains.

A line extended past the escalator as people waited for others to go down the escalator so they could take other trains, with some straphangers grunting and complaining about the delays.

Kevin Ortiz, an MTA spokesman, said crews were in the process of making repairs, but that as of 10:15 a.m., trains were still running in both directions.

“We’ve got trains running in both directions,” Ortiz said. “However, they are running with extensive delays and there is no express service.”
