Elizabeth Ann Volk, 54, died in Redding, Conn.

Elizabeth Ann Volk, also known as Liz, died Feb. 8 at age 54 in Redding. Conn. Surrounded by family and close friends, she left us peacefully from the home she shared with her life-partner, Josephine Mineo.

Volk was born on Nov. 22, 1961 in Flushing to Ana Golden and Robert Volk. She is survived by her three brothers—Robert, William and John—their spouses and her five nieces and nephews.

She earned her associate degree from Queensborough Community College in Bayside and went on to work in advertising. She later graduated from Bellevue Hospital Center School of Radiologic Technology and became licensed to practice in New York state. While working at Bellevue and New York University she earned certifications in Mammography and MRI. Afterward, she moved to Beth Israel North where she worked in Interventional Radiology with some of the most respected physicians in the field. Volk had found her niche. Her last move was to Westchester Medical Center, where she continued to work in IR. She developed many close relationships there, both professionally and personally. She practiced there for the last 10 years.

Volk’s No. 1 passion was music. Whether she was playing her guitar, attending concerts or creating playlists, music remained her lifeline. She enjoyed traveling and gardening. She was an avid sports fan who loved following University of Connecticut women’s basketball, the New York Liberty of the WNBA and the Mets, Giants and Jets. Yet Volk was not just a spectator, she was an athlete who completed many 5Ks, a half-marathon, a biathlon and two New York City Marathons.

A celebration of her life took place Feb. Tuesday at Hawthorne Funeral Home in Hawthorne, N.Y. Burial followed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. A mass at St. Luke’s Church in Whitestone will be held in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to Ann’s Place and to Regional Hospice.
