Three men have been arrested and charged with firing a weapon during a robbery attempt that took place in a residence hall at St. John’s University in Jamaica Estates, police said.

According to the NYPD, Anthony Gusthas, 18, Mustafa Godbolt, 21, and Tyrell Sutton, 17, entered Room 510 in Hollis Hall on the campus at about 1:25 p.m. Wednesday. There were three 19-year-old and two 18-year-old men in the room at the time, police said.

Police said Godbolt pulled a .38 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver during the robbery attempt and discharged one round during a brief struggle. The men in the room knew Gusthas as a former student, according to the NYPD. No one in the room was injured from the gunshot, a statement from the university’s public safety unit said.

The three suspects fled the hall and campus. At about 1:49 p.m., they were apprehended and arrested by officers in the NYPD School Safety Unit at the intersection of 167th Street and Grand Central Parkway, which is only a block away from the university grounds, the NYPD said. The revolver was recovered at the scene, according to police.

Gusthas was charged with robbery and burglary, police said Godbolt was charged with robbery, burglary, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and of a controlled substance, they said. He is accused of having 149 pills of Xanax, police said.

Sutton was charged with robbery, burglary and criminal possession of a knife during the robbery attempt, the NYPD said.

St. John’s public safety unit said that there was no continuing threat to students, faculty or staff.
