A hair salon offering high-end products and hair color is opening on Skillman Avenue next month in the location that was formerly occupied by Tiny You.
Barbara Crowe O’Brien, who has lived in Sunnyside for the past 10 years, plans to open her salon in about four weeks. The 46-21 Skillman Ave. salon will focus primarily on haircuts as well as Aveda hair coloring. It will be steering clear of waxing and nails.
O’Brien said that since moving to Sunnyside, she has always been drawn to the Skillman Avenue block where her salon will be located. The name of her salon will be Melo Yelo Hairdressing.
She said that it will be an Aveda-concept Salon, offering Aveda all-natural hair color and products. She will also offer Wella color.
There will be a number of techniques on offer, such as ombre color, balayage, hair painting and highlights.
O’Brien, who lives in Sunnyside Gardens with her family, has worked as a stylist in Manhattan for nearly 10 years. She worked eight years on the Upper East Side and two in Midtown.
She will also offer men’s and children’s cuts.
O’Brien hails from Ireland and was trained and worked at Peter Marks Hair Salon in Tipperary.
She has continued her education in New York with Aveda and Wella.
