Queens Library Archives closing temporarily

By Madina Toure

The Archives at Queens Library, located within the Central Library in Jamaica, is moving to a newly renovated space in the same building.

The Archives in the library at 89-11 Merrick Blvd. will be closed to customer service from June 27 through July while they move.

When the Archives’ new home opens to the public in August, it will feature new décor and climate-controlled storage for the collections.

The Archives preserve the history of the four counties of Long Island with an emphasis on Queens. The collections include thousands of photographs, journals, maps, books, artifacts of historical value and genealogy resources such as census records and old phone books. A selection of photographs are available digitally at digitalarchives.queenslibrary.org.
