Rockets of red glare and bombs bursting in air delighted thousands of spectators who attended two early Fourth of July fireworks shows held in Bayside and Astoria this week.

Wednesday night saw the annual Independence Day fireworks display over Fort Totten, sponsored by Councilman Paul Vallone and the Bayside Historical Society. Various entertainment acts delighted the gathering crowds before the pyrotechnic show began after sundown.

The following night, Astoria Park had its own wondrous fireworks display put on by the Central Astoria Local Development Corporation. Spectators gathered on the park’s great lawn to view the Grucci pyrotechnics shot high between the Robert F. Kennedy and Hell Gate bridges. The Queens Symphony Orchestra got everyone into a patriotic mood with their rendition of classic American tunes.

Of course, if you missed these great local fireworks shows, you can always catch the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular on Monday night from venues across Long Island City. In the meantime, check out these highlights from the Astoria and Bayside displays.
