A 21-year-old woman died and three others were injured on Thursday after a 56-year-old woman driving a Porsche hit a sidewalk and two other cars on the Horace Harding Expressway service road in Corona.
At about 6:30 p.m. on June 30, police responded to the accident, which involved four people and three motor vehicles at the intersection of the Horace Harding Expressway service road and Junction Boulevard.
According to police, 56-year-old Irene Lee of Forest Hills was driving westbound on the Horace Harding Expressway service road when she lost control of her car. Her black 2009 Porsche Cayenne jumped onto the sidewalk and hit a signal post, 21-year-old pedestrian Doniqueco Cooke walking on the sidewalk and a 26-year-old female bicyclist.
Both victims were taken to Elmhurst General Hospital and the 21-year-old victim succumbed to her injuries. The bicyclist suffered a concussion, dislocated shoulder, fractured pelvis, fractured femur and internal bleeding.
Lee continued into the southbound lane of Junction Boulevard where she collided with two vehicles, a 2013 Mini Cooper and 2008 Toyota Camry that were waiting for the traffic light to change. The 46-year-old man driving the Mini Cooper was transported to Elmhurst Hospital. The 26-year-old driving the Toyota Camry was treated at the scene, police said.
Lee fled the scene of the crime, according to police, but shortly came back and told officers she was the driver. A witness saw a Hispanic male his 50s wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans run from the scene. A spokesperson for the NYPD said that man may have been a passenger in the Porsche.
Lee was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident without reporting death, leaving the scene of an accident without reporting serious physical injury, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident without reporting property damage, according to the criminal complaint.
She is expected back in court on July 14.
