Your Queens Weekend: July 29-31

This weekend, the outdoor summer concert scene is hitting full swing. Friday night at 6, the Latin band Orquestra Finke will bring their swinging rhythm section and harmonic brass sound to Clement Clarke Moore Homestead Park in Elmhurst (www.nycgovparks.org/parks/Q361/events/2016/07/29/summer-sounds-orquesta-finke for details). Tomorrow at 7 p.m., Queensbridge Park is hosting an evening of dance, featuring Stefanie Batten Bland, and music, with the sounds of futuristic emsemble Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber (www.cityparksfoundation.org/event/summerstage-stefanie-batten-bland for details). Also up tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. is jazz performer Taulant Mehmeti, putting on a show of what is being billed as “Arts, Culture & Fun” at Athens Square in Elmhurst (www.nycgovparks.org/events/2016/07/30/arts-culture-fun-jazz-concert1 for details). Queensbridge Park is also hosting an afternoon of top-flight music on Sunday afternoon starting at 4 p.m., headlined by Marc Cary, a pianist and composter who has played with such artists as Dizzy Gillespie and Abbey Lincoln (www.cityparksfoundation.org/event/summerstage-community-family-day-queensbridge).

Indoors, there will a feast for film lovers at the Museum of the Moving Image, as the series “See It Big! The 70mm Show” gets underway. This weekend “2001: A Space Odyssey” will be screened, with show times at 7 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday, as well as 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday. Tell them HAL sent you.
