For Ray DeLeon, winning “Best of the Boro” in the awning category means he’s got it made in the shade.

The savvy owner of Classical Awnings located in Jamaica, who also specializes in ironwork – railings, all types of fences, and more are all part of his large portfolio – lets all his customers know about his “Best Of” title.

“It’s a great thing, to be honest,” said DeLeon. “I use it on a daily basis. I introduced it to all my customers and they are all very impressed. It gives them confidence and lets me know I’m doing something right.”

DeLeon explained that he’s been a welder for over 40 years, and that he started part time in the industry in 1980 before opening his own business in 1984.

More than 30 years later, Classical Awnings serves Queens and parts of Brooklyn. With free estimates, DeLeon said he and his staff will go to a customer’s home at the beginning of the process to ensure each is happy.

“Everything I do is customized, from the smallest [job] to the largest,” said DeLeon.

And with nominations open for “Best of the Boro” through August 5, DeLeon said he’s looking forward to this year’s competition.

“It’s powerful, no question about that,” he said. “[Being named ‘Best Of’] was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I get great customer reaction.”

Nominations in over 400 business categories are now open through August 5. The top 10 nominees will advance to the official ballot. To be a part of the “Best of the Boro,” simply nominate your business at Best of the Boro website.
