Thanksgiving is almost here, and many of us will be traveling to go see friends and family and celebrate the holiday. Starting Wednesday, Nov. 23, the MTA will be operating an updated service schedule to help accommodate the extra travelers.
New York City Subways and MTA Buses will operate on the Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Day. There are some lines that do not run on Sundays, so commuters are advised to check the Sunday schedules, lines and routes before traveling.
Certain bus lines in Queens will be impacted by the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Those who ride the Q32, QM2, QM4, QM5, and QM6 can expect delays. Bus schedules will return to normal on Black Friday, Nov. 27, with some exceptions.
The Long Island Railroad (LIRR) will providing extra early afternoon train services on Wednesday, Nov. 23 to help riders get an easier start to the holiday. Tickets will be offered at off-peak fares throughout the holiday weekend.
Construction and routine maintenance on MTA Bridges and Tunnels will be suspended from 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23 until the end of the morning rush on Monday, Nov. 29. The Queens Midtown Tunnel is an exception because of the ongoing FastTrack Sandy restoration work that’s ongoing there. At least one lane in each direction will remain open.
