Everyone was a festive mood at the Community United Methodist Church on Metropolitan Avenue in Middle Village on Friday night as children of all ages awaited the arrival of the big man in the red suit.

Santa Claus pulled up to the church just after 6 p.m. in a Mercury Comet Cyclone GT — decked out by the East Coast Car Association with holiday lights, tinsel, candy canes and bows — ringing his bell and lugging his bag of goodies for all to enjoy as children lined up along the sidewalk to greet him.

Old St. Nick led the countdown to the tree lighting in front of the church. Once the tree was lit, members of Girl Scout Troop 4419 entertained the audience with their renditions of Christmas songs including “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,” “Silent Night,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” and other holiday jingles.

Take a look at photos from the joyous event.
