A new art exhibition sponsored by the arts non-profit No Longer Empty is open for viewing at Jamaica Colosseum Mall. The exhibition features several artists, including many from southeast Queens, in an exhibit that intends to “gather and reimagine histories” in southeastern Queens and beyond, according to the exhibition’s site.

Remix Rememory is named from a combination of the musical production term and “rememory,” a word coined by famed author Toni Morrison, who defined it as what one does when they remember a memory. The exhibition occupies a vacant storefront in the mall, located at 89-02 165th St. Artists based in southeast Queens include Jocelyn Goode, Neal Desai and Sherese Francis, among others.

“Like music, memories can be remixed to create new visions connecting the past, present and future, while addressing the particular politics or preservation,” according to the exhibition site. The exhibition intends to present “works that show how underrepresented or misremembered narratives can be reclaimed — interweaving personal and collective histories.”

The opening was last Saturday, with a performance from the collective Charlatan. The exhibition will run through Dec. 18, and it will include both borrowed and commissioned work.

No Longer Empty is a non-profit working throughout the city pairs established artists along with newer artists in community-based sites and locations. The organization sponsored the Jameco Exchange gallery in Jamaica this past summer.
