An Uber driver struck and killed a 67-year-old man in Jackson Heights Thursday night, police said. He stayed at the scene.
Henry Boimel, a resident of 35th Avenue, was crossing the south side of 76th Street at 37th Avenue, when Dinesh Bhattarai, 45, making a right hand turn off 37th Avenue in his 2015 Toyota Rav 4 struck the victim in the crosswalk, according to the NYPD. EMS responded and discovered Boimel with head trauma. He was transported to Elmhurst Hospital Center where he was pronounced DOA.
Bhattarai, who lives on 76th Street, was arrested and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk, police said.
The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate.
