A popular Astoria restaurant has been shut down for the second time for allegedly failing to pay its taxes.
The New York Dog House at 37-06 30th Avenue was closed down by the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance on February 15 for owing $168,323.88 in taxes, according to a representative for the department.
The restaurant has been in the cross-hairs of the department in recent months. It was closed down in October, owing the state $154,712 at the time, but was allow to reopen on November 23.
The restaurant, which specializes in gourmet hotdogs with toppings such as pineapple, avocado or chili paste and peanuts, has a notice posted by its owners on the front door notifying the public as to their woes.
The Dog House owners wrote on the poster that the restaurant has “yet again fallen to the unjust practices of the Department of State.”
The restaurant promised to update its social media accounts with developments on the case. “We will rise again,” the restaurant’s sign promised.
