Plane registerd to Whitestone firm crashes in New Jersey

A plane registered to an address in Whitestone crashed in Bayonne, N.J.

According to the FAA, a Piper PA-28 aircraft crashed near the intersection of 41st Street and Avenue E in Bayonne at 10 a.m Sunday.

The plane was registered to Airborn Flight Services Inc. on 19-10 Parsons Blvd. According to reports, the pilot of the plane was 56-year-old Wheatley Heights resident George Pettway.

Pettway was the only person on board the plane, which narrowly missed the Bayonne bridge, and was taken to a nearby hospital. He is expected to survive. The extent of his injuries was not known.

The flight departed Republic Airport in East Farmingdale, L.I.

The FAA is investigating the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board will determine the probable cause of the accident.
