PS 31 auditorium slated for face-lift

The Bayside School, or PS 31, at 211-45 46th Road will be getting a major upgrade of the auditorium, according to Councilman Paul Vallone (D-Bayside).

Funds from the upcoming fiscal year have been allocated in the form of $145,000, on top of the $100,000 Vallone’s office has already put toward the project, which will replace chairs and flooring.

“The kids at PS 31 are great and are very involved, so it’s exciting to be able to share such good news. Their faces lit up with joy as we announced that they would be getting a brand new auditorium,” Vallone said. “The heart of the school is the auditorium. With all new seats, flooring and more, the kids of PS 31 will have an incredible new auditorium to enjoy for years to come.”

Terri Graybow, principal of PS 31, said the auditorium is in bad shape with broken seats. Updating the space will give parents and students a better experience and give the school’s image a face-lift.

“The auditorium is where parents come to watch their students perform. It’s where our entire student body comes together, where we do our graduations and right now there are so many broken seats,” Graybow said. “We’re a school that focuses on many activities and events and we’re very much looking forward to having a brand-new auditorium to house all of them.”
