Man impersonates police office, walks into Astoria pre-school to solicit money, NYPD says

Police are searching for a man who impersonated a police officer in an attempt to solicit money at an Astoria preschool last week.

According to the report, an unknown man walked in to the New Milestone Preschool at 27-18 Hoyt Avenue around 11:50 a.m. on February 28. He displayed an NYPD identification card and attempted to solicit funds for charity, before exiting and fleeing the location.

The suspect is described as a 40 to 50 year old bald black man, standing about 6 feet tall and weighing around 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark colored jacket and pants and a red shirt.

Police have released a photo of the suspect and anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
