Several memorial services will take place this weekend in Queens to celebrate the life of former Borough President Helen Marshall, who died earlier this month.
A public service will take place on Sunday afternoon, March 19, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Helen Marshall Cultural Center inside of Queens Borough Hall, located at 120-55 Queens Blvd. in Kew Gardens. Current Queens Borough President Melinda Katz and the Marshall family are hosting the event.
Preceding the public memorial, the Marshall family will hold a wake on Friday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Cobbs Funeral Home, 98-08 Astoria Blvd. in East Elmhurst. On Saturday, March 18, family and friends will gather for a funeral service at 10 a.m. at East Elmhurst’s First Baptist Church, 100-10 Astoria Blvd.
Marshall, 87, died on March 3 in California following a long illness. She served 12 years as Queens borough president, and prior to that represented much of Corona, East Elmhurst, Elmhurst and Jackson Heights in the State Assembly and City Council.
Those planning on attending the public memorial on March 19 must reserve their seats at www.queensbp.org/rsvp or by calling 718-286-2660.
