A youth soccer group based in Middle Village is holding a special magic show fundraiser this weekend for one of its players who was recently diagnosed with leukemia, and her family.
Chloe Mitchell, a first-grader at P.S. 193 in Whitestone, has been playing with Soccer Kids NYC since 2016. On March 2, she and her mother, Erin, received that news that Chloe had leukemia. The six-year-old has already been subjected to a bone marrow biopsy and is scheduled to have her port placed and start chemotherapy immediately.
“When we heard about Chloe, we came up with ideas on how we can help Chloe and her family,” said Noe Canales, founder of NYC Soccer Kids. “Magic is something we can all agree to be amazing and fascinating. Taking our mind away from what’s happening in the body of a six-year-old diagnosed with cancer is no easy task. But we do know that a magic show will be fun and engaging.”
The magic show will be held on Sunday, April 2, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium of P.S. 144, located at 93-20 69th Ave. in Forest Hills.
All of the Soccer Kids NYC players at the magic show — including Chloe — will be wearing the same sky blue t-shirts as a sign of comradery with their teammates.
NYC Soccer Kids has partnered with Rouge Magic for the show, and Roger Quan, A.K.A. Rogue the Magician, will be delighting the kids with his magic.
“I am really excited to donate my time and effort to help those less fortunate than ourselves and in this case, to raise money for a six-year-old girl who was recently diagnosed with cancer,” Quan said. “My heart aches for her and one of the main reasons I fell in love with magic is because I always wanted to make people smile and to help others forget about their troubles, if only for a few moments, to bring them back to a happier time. Not only will I be donating my services to entertain and amaze the audience in attendance at the Soccer Kids NYC, I’ll be donating some signature magic sets, magic wands, and bracelets to be raffled or auctioned off. I’ve been doing magic for over 25 years. Nothing makes me happier than making a difference in someone’s life, someone who truly deserves it.”
NYC Soccer Kids is asking for people to donate to the GoFundMe set up to help Chloe and her family. As of Friday, March 31, $41,636 of the $42,500 goal has been raised.
