A pit bull attacked a young girl’s face in her Corona home after she tried to take a bone from the dog, leaving her in critical condition.
According to police sources, the 18-month-old girl was with a babysitter at her home on 102nd Street near 34th Avenue at about 4:30 p.m. on May 1, where the babysitter’s sons had been watching a friend’s pit bull in the backyard. The dog had a bone in its mouth and when the victim went to grab for the bone, the dog lunged and bit her in the face, causing many lacerations.
EMS rushed the victim to Elmhurst Hospital where she underwent surgery; she is listed in critical but stable condition. Sources say that she is likely to survive her injuries.
Members of the NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit arrived removed the dog from the location and gave it to Animal Care and Control.
No arrests or summons have been made in relation to the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
