Holy Cross High School in Flushing received major contribution from an anonymous alumni in early May. The science, technology, robotics, engineering, art and mathematics programs will get a boost of $1 million, according to a release.
According to Mike Truesdell, president of Holy Cross, equipping students with the latest knowledge to make big contributions to the modern world are at the heart of the values of the school, which will use the funds to expand critical programs.
“In keeping with the founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross, Blessed Basil Moreau, ‘How we educate the mind will change with the times; how we cultivate the heart is and will remain timeless,’ ” Truesdell said. “The STREAM Curriculum at Holy Cross is part of the school’s ever-changing effort to best prepare young people to contribute to the global economy.
“As a result of this inspirational and aspirational gift from an anonymous alumnus, Holy Cross graduates will continue to excel as they take their next academic and career steps.”
Holy Cross lives up to the Dept. of Education’s standards of teaching students how to make scientific inquiries and find solutions to problems, the school says.
According to the National Research Council “…providing students a foundation in engineering design allows them to better engage in and aspire to solve the major societal and environmental challenges they will face in the decades ahead.”
