Police were searching for a man who allegedly stole a large amount of cash from Woori Bank in Sunnyside May 15.

The suspect handed the bank teller $3,000 in $100 bills and asked to exchange them for $50 bills, police said. According to authorities, he then removed $1,300 in bills without the teller’s knowledge and asked for $20 bills in exchange for that amount. The teller gave him the original $3,000, unaware of the missing amount, police said.

The suspect was described by police as a Hispanic or white male who was last seen wearing a black long sleeve shirt and a light burgundy New York Yankees baseball hat.

The bank is located at 43-22 50th St.

Police ask that anyone with information call the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
