A Corona man was sentenced to nine years in prison after selling hundreds of heroin bags on Long Island, according to prosecutors.
Jeffrey Ventura, 30, was convicted and charged with multiple counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy and criminal use of drug paraphernalia, the Nassau County District Attorney’s office announced earlier this month.
Ventura, after unknowingly conspiring to sell heroin to an undercover detective, was discovered on Oct. 25, 2016 with approximately 600 bags of heroin, 19 bags of cocaine and packaging materials during a traffic stop in Glen Cove. The items were hidden in a trap beneath the center console of Ventura’s Nissan Maxima, prosecutors said.
During the course of the three month long investigation, Ventura also sold 30 bags of heroin to an undercover detective.
“We have treatment resources available to addicts and educational programs to prevent drug abuse, but we have no tolerance for the dealers like this defendant who profit from selling this deadly poison in our communities,” Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said. “Our law enforcement partners at every level are committed to ending this epidemic, and drug dealers should be on notice that if they sell heroin in our communities that we will find them, prosecute them, and send them to prison.”
The joint investigation was conducted by the Nassau County District Attorney’s office, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the Glen Cove Police Department.
