A senior woman from Springfield Gardens is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation after she fired shots at a man who parked in front of her house on Wednesday afternoon.
At 5:16 p.m. on Aug. 9, police responded to a 911 call of shots fired at a home on 229th Street near Edgewood Avenue. When police arrived at the scene, a 48-year-old man stated that Yvonne Cosby, 76, had fired two shots at him from her first floor window. The shots missed the man, with one bullet hitting the car.
Police contained Cosby inside of the house and called in ESU for assistance. After engaging Cosby in conversation, police were able to take her into custody without any problems.
Cosby was arrested and taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation. Police recovered a .22 caliber gun at her home.
Cosby was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, menacing and harassment.
According to police, Cosby had called 911 earlier that day claiming that she was going to blow up the car that was parked in front of her house. When officers arrived at the scene, they informed Cosby that the car was parked there legally.
