Delta Sheet Metal has been a fixture in Long Island City for 45 years, but the company is heading to greener pastures in Nassau County.

The industry, which produces metal ductwork on behalf of its parent company, PJ Mechanical Inc., will relocate to a 74,000-square-foot facility in Hicksville, taking more than 300 union jobs with it, Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano announced on Thursday.

Opened in 1972 at currently located at 39-35 Skillman Ave., Delta Sheet Metal has become an industry leader in New York City, as noted on its website. It claims to use “the most innovative technology at [its] disposal” to produce high-quality ducts used for both residential and commercial buildings.

Mangano said that Delta Sheet Metal had considered relocating to New Jersey, but ultimately decided to head east over the Queens/Nassau border. Along with its 311 current employees, the company plans to add another 16 workers upon arrival in Hicksville.

“Our success in bringing New York City companies to Nassau County lies in both the tremendous effort by my economic development team, competitive real estate value, the attraction of great schools and the high quality of life enjoyed by our residents and, of course, a terrific workforce,” Mangano said in a statement.

The current two-story Delta Sheet Metal location on Skillman Avenue, which abuts Sunnyside Yards, encompasses 168,400 square feet and has an assessed value of more than $16 million, according to a PropertyShark report. It’s currently zoned solely for manufacturing purposes.
