Police arrested a man who fatally shot the mother of his newborn child during an apparent dispute at the victim’s South Jamaica home early Sunday morning.
On Sept. 17 at around 2 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of an assault at a home on 147th Street near 133rd Avenue. Upon their arrival, they found 34-year-old Luz Cuza unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head.
EMS responded to the scene and transported Cuza to Jamaica Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Responding officers also took into custody her boyfriend, Robert Rodriguez, shortly after the incident.
Following questioning, Rodriguez was booked on charges of second-degree murder, criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of marijuana.
