A Flushing woman has been charged for a fatal hit-and-run that left a grandmother dead.
Geum Min, 58, was arrested Thursday and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to yield to pedestrian and failure to exercise due care, according to the NYPD.
According to police, Min struck 77 year-old Jun Sum Yim near Parsons Boulevard and 32nd Avenue Wednesday around 7 a.m.
When police arrived, they found Yim lying on the road, unconscious and unresponsive. EMS took Yim to Flushing Hospital Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Yim was struck mid-block between 32nd and 33rd Avenues on Parsons Boulevard and that Min fled the scene, according to authorities.
Councilman Peter Koo (D-Flushing) called the hit-and-run a cowardly act.
“My heart goes out to the victim and family of this horrible hit-and-run,” he said. “To lose an elderly family member to such a cowardly act is truly devastating. Too many of our neighbors, friends, and families have suffered irreparably at the hands of irresponsible and unethical drivers.”
According to reports, prior to being struck, Yim had left her daily prayer service at a Parsons Boulevard church.
