The World’s Borough hosted early celebrations of Independence Day last week with two spectacular fireworks displays in Astoria and Bayside.

Despite rainy weather, hundreds came out to the Fort Totten parade grounds on June 27 for a pyrotechnic display hosted by the Bayside Historical Society. A concert featuring an array of musical acts preceded the fireworks extravaganza that delighted attendees.

The next night, June 28, the Central Astoria Local Development Corporation held its annual Independence Day fireworks show. Thousands gathered on the Astoria Park Great Lawn to marvel at the rockets red glare and bombs bursting in the air above the Astoria waterfront between the Hell Gate Bridge and the Triborough Bridge.

Tonight, of course, is the big Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza on the East River waterfront. Long Island City is among the best places in the city to witness the pyrotechnics in person.
