Whitestone residents can head to a local park this weekend to watch a beloved pop culture trio embark on an adventure in a galaxy far, far away.

On July 13, “Star Wars: A New Hope” will screen at Francis Lewis Park at Third Avenue and 147th Street, adjacent to the Whitestone Bridge. The rain date for the event is July 14.

The free, family-friendly affair will begin at 8 p.m. with a “Star Wars”-themed costume contest. Awards will be given out to attendees wearing the best, most creative ensembles.

The movie will then begin after dusk. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets. Free popcorn, cotton candy and drinks will also be available during the outdoor screening.

The event is sponsored by Vallo Transportation and hosted by the 109th Precinct, 109th Precinct Community Council and the We Love Whitestone Civic Association.
