Chipotle Mexican Grill will open a location on Steinway Street early next year, a spokesperson for the company confirmed Wednesday.
The fast-casual restaurant chain, which specializes in burritos and tacos, will open its first Astoria restaurant at 31-73 Steinway St.
The location is currently occupied by a Payless shoe store.
Chipotle also operates several other locations in Queens, including at 26-16 Jackson Ave. in Long Island City and 87-10 Northern Blvd. in Jackson Heights.
The company operates about 2,250 locations in the United States, according to Reuters.
Despite Chipotle’s popularity, the restaurant has been beleaguered in recent years by outbreaks of food-borne illnesses, including salmonella and E. coli.
This July, more than 600 people who had eaten at a Chipotle restaurant in Powell, Ohio self-reported gastrointestinal symptoms, according to the Delaware General Health District.
