Man with trauma to his face found dead on an Astoria street

Police are investigating the death of a man who was found on an Astoria street with facial trauma early on Thursday morning.

At 12:48 a.m. on Aug. 9, police responded to a 911 call regarding an unconscious man outside an apartment building in the vicinity 18th St. Upon their arrival, officers from the 114th Precinct found a 48-year-old man with trauma to the face lying on the ground, unconscious and unresponsive.

EMS responded to the scene and rushed the victim to Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens, where he was pronounced dead. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.

His body was transferred to the Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Sources familiar with the investigation suspect foul play and believe that the victim may have sustained his injuries during some kind of assault.

No arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
