Aviation fair brings job seekers

The Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, The Port Authority of NY&NJ and the Council for Airport Opportunity brought hundreds of aviation job seekers together at the Aviation Job Fair held in the Helen Marshall Cultural Center in Kew Gardens. Queens Borough Hall. President Katz welcomed job seekers and praised the work that the recruiters and supporters are doing in bringing awareness and jobs to her borough.

Those interested in aviation careers ranged from recent college grads from Vaughn, and York colleges, to individuals who are currently employed but want a better opportunity, to high school grads who want greater economic growth, downsized older professionals and those who have moved from other states looking for good work.

The job fair doesn’t stop at these events. The CAO had offices through the area. They are pleased to announce a closer relationship with Elmcor Youth & Adult Activities, Inc. is a Queens, New York non-profit, multi-service organization of professionals providing a variety of comprehensive programs that serve all populations from preschool aged children to senior citizen.

They will have an office there beginning in September and this is open on a regular basis to work with those looking for work in the air in the aviation world will participation with Community Boards one and three in the LaGuardia Airport area. Many airlines contribute annually to help fund the CAO in reaching out to those who are in areas that would benefit mostly from enhanced services in working to assist members of that community.

More aviation related jobs have been shared by the recent JFK Redevelopment Plan forums in the Queens area. Program managers stress the need for MWBE contractors and urge businesses to become certified to be included in Port Authority and NYS opportunities.

Additional supporters of this event included Congressman Crowley, State Senator Jose Peralta, Assembly Member Jeffrion Aubry, Assembly member DenDekker, Council Member Francisso Moya, Assembly member Aravella Simotas, Council Member Costa Constantinides and Council Member Daniel Dromm along with aviation companies at Delta, LaGuardia Gateway Partners, Skanska, Walsh and Meridiam.
