Good Cargo Forecast

Report from July’s air cargo traffic from the world’s major carriers suggest that the outlook for the rest of the year may be brighter than first expected despite the ongoing tariff tiffs. The holiday season is about to begin and e-commerce shipments are expected to grow again bringing additional dollars to the air cargo community.

dnata passenger services

dnata, one of the world’s largest air services providers, has launched passenger handling operations at New York-JFK Airport with Copa Airlines. Already providing ground handling to more than 50 airlines in the United States, this is a natural portfolio extension for dnata in New York.

Worldwide Flight Services

WFS was named operator for Oslo Airport on site seafood facility. The new terminal construction is said to begin in 2019 and be completed by 2021.The Norwegian airport was the fastest growing airport cargo facility

WFS also scored Kenya Airlines as new customer at JFK Airport.

Centurion Air Cargo gone

The Miami-based freighter operator, has surrendered its air carrier operating certificate (AOC) and has decided against continuing to pursue the resumption of operations. In March, the carrier had been in discussions with a potential US investor who it was hoped would fund the carrier’s return to service. The facility comprises a 1,400,000-square-foot area incorporating a 550,000-square-foot warehouse with both cold and dry storage facilities.

Air Canada CEIV certified

Air Canada Cargo, Vice President Tim Strauss said, “Whether it is a family relocating with their pet, a flock of sheep relocating overseas or zoo animals travelling to support conservation efforts, transporting animals by air is a complex and highly planned operation.

Ensuring that animals travel in safe, healthy and humane conditions requires coordination across the supply chain. Air Canada Cargo is delighted to be part of the CEIV Live Animals program.”

Delta goes e-AWB digital

Delta Cargo has introduced self-service iPad kiosks as part of the eAWB digitization. Delta C has seen a significant increase in the speed of transition from paper to e-AWB bookings for US domestic shipments. The air waybill (AWB) is a critical air cargo document which is a “contract of carriage’ between the shipper and airline.

Pilots Amazon Angst

Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings’ pilots who fly for Amazon Air under a contract between the two companies have issues with Amazon. Teamsters Local 1224, which represents the airline’s pilots, maintains that the carrier does not have a sufficient body of pilots to accommodate its relationship with Amazon Air – an issue the group has been speaking on since Atlas’ relationship with the e-tail giant began, leasing twenty 767s from Atlas in 2016.

Emirates pets

The freight division of Emirates, has launched Emirates Pets, a new and improved air transportation product developed by a team of experts to offer a convenient and comfortable air transportation experience for domestic pets. With Emirates Pets, the entry-level solution, Emirates SkyCargo will offer airport-to-airport transportation for pets across the carrier’s network of over 160 destinations. The owner of the pet will be responsible for completing all the required paperwork and clearances needed for the transport of the pet from one country to another.

In addition, Emirates SkyCargo has also entered into a partnership with Snoopy Pets, a leading pet relocation service provider based out of Dubai, to offer a new premium door-to-door transportation service, Emirates Pets Plus, across 16 markets

LATAM

LATAM Airlines, South America’s largest cargo carrier, saw 2018 second quarter cargo revenues increase 16.8 percent, driven by a recovery in both imports and exports in the region.

The Chilean-based carrier saw cargo revenues for the three months ended June reach $299.7m, helped by a 6.7 percent increase in cargo yields, mainly due to a better demand environment and the ending of a Brazilian truckers strike and “Export markets are also showing a recovery year over-year, driven mainly by salmon exports from Chile.

Cargo casting call

A UK production company is making an eight part TV show about air cargo for channel UKTV.

Production company Back2Back Productions said the TV show, initially called MegaAir, will “showcase the incredible logistics involved in air cargo”.

The company is looking to talk to anyone with an involvement in the Industry.

“Mega Air is going to follow a whole variety of stories from shipping live animals, huge engine parts or high value sports cars as well as every day shipping items they also want to follow stories of unusual air cargo,” Back2Back productions said to contact carron.munro(at)back2back.tv.
