A 73-year-old man died of his injuries a week after he was hit by a car while crossing the street in Sunnyside.

According to police, at 9:53 p.m. on Sept. 17, officers from the 108th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian struck in the vicinity of 49th Street and Roosevelt Avenue. Upon their arrival, cops found 73-year-old Luis Simbana lying on the roadway with severe head trauma.

An investigation by the NYPD Highway Unit’s Collision Investigation Squad found that Simbana was crossing Roosevelt Avenue mid-block when he was struck by a gray 2003 Ford Fusion, which was operated by a 70-year-old man. At the time, there was a green light on Roosevelt Avenue at this location.

EMS responded to the scene and took Simbana to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was died of his injuries on Sept. 24. The vehicle remained at the scene following the incident.

No arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
