Far Rockaway Library finds temporary space as it undergoes construction

Far Rockaway Library’s service will resume at a temporary space on Tuesday at its original building gets reconstructed for a state-of-the-art replacement, according to Queens Library.

The library located at 1637 Central Avenue, is being rebuilt from a single-story 9,000-square-feet brick building and will be erected as an 18,000-square-feet pyramidal structure with a glass curtain wall, but in the meantime starting Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. bibliophiles will be temporarily served at 1003 Beach 20th St. in Far Rockaway, according to Queens Library spokeswoman Ewa Kern-Jedrychowska.

The new Far Rockaway Library is slated to open in three years and is being erected by EW Howell Construction Group with a design from Norwegian architectural firm in Oslo called Snøhetta, according to spokeswoman Ewa Kern-Jedrychowska.

Service at the temporary space will follow the Far Rockaway Library’s previous hours going forward.

Monday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Tuesday 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Wednesday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Thursday 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
