Firefighters worked quickly to put out a fire that broke out inside a Bayside ice cream shop on Saturday morning.

According to the Fire Department, the one-alarm blaze occurred at about 6:10 a.m. on Nov. 3 inside of Ben & Teena’s Ice Cream Shop at 39-33 Bell Blvd., between 39th and 40th avenues.

Sixty firefighters from 12 units responded to 911 calls about the blaze, and they had the fire beat in about a half-hour.

On its FDNY Alerts Twitter page, the department declared the fire under control at 6:47 a.m. There were no reported injuries, according to an FDNY spokesperson. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Ben & Teena’s was previously known as Maggie Moo’s ice cream, the owners changed the name back in the spring.

Ben Katz, co-owner of the shop, told QNS that there was no structural damage to the building, and that they were already working to replace damaged ice cream-making equipment. He’s hopeful the shop will be back up and running by Thanksgiving.

Katz credited the Fire Department — particularly the efforts of nearby Engine Company 306/Ladder Company 152, located just two blocks away — for their fast response in limiting the damage.
