BAYSIDE — Police were investigating the death of a man who was found dead after a fire broke out in his Bayside home Thursday night.

Police responded to a 911 call regarding a residential fire in the basement of 56-07 East Hampton Blvd. Dec. 6 at 9:58 p.m., according to authorities. The FDNY responded to the location, deploying 12 units and 60 firefighters to put out the fire.

The FDNY extinguished the fire by 11 p.m. Officers from the 111th Precinct then found 59-year-old Ismael Sylla in the home, unconscious and unresponsive.

EMS arrived at the scene and declared Sylla — who was wheel-chair bound, according to reports — dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner was working to determine the cause of death.

The cause of the fire was also under investigation by the NYC Fire Marshal.
