A holiday market is coming to Steinway Street next week that will showcase local vendors.

The Steinway Holiday Market, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 30 and Sunday, Dec. 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is being held at the Steinway Municipal Parking Lot #2, between 31st avenue and Broadway.

More than two dozen local vendors are expected both days, selling food, jewelry, pottery and crotchet items, among a slew of other homemade artisanal goods.

“We were looking for a way to promote the district and get the holiday shopping season started,” said Roxy Tico, program manager for the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition, a local nonprofit community organization that is running the event alongside the Steinway Astoria Partnership.

“We wanted to offer visitors local, unique gift ideas and a unique experience. We’ve never done this before,” Tico said.

Free entertainment, including holiday carolers, local children’s performance groups and other musicians will be on-site for guests to enjoy. Free face painting will also be offered.

Santa Claus will also be making an appearance and offering free photos for visitors on Saturday from 12 to 3 p.m.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will also be held Saturday morning to ring in the market.
