With the intent to improve traffic flow and safety, the state announced the start of a safety enhancement project along the Grand Central Parkway in Holliswood this week.
The $8.2 million project will link seven entrance and exit ramps into a continuous lane along nearly a one-mile stretch of the highway, connecting the entrance ramp from 188th Street to the exit ramp at Francis Lewis Boulevard in both the east and westbound direction, according to New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez.
“Governor Cuomo is making unprecedented investments in transportation across the state, enhancing safety, supporting economic growth and building more resilient infrastructure,” said Dominguez. “These improvements on the Grand Central Parkway will ease merges, improve traffic flow and reduce congestion for the tens of thousands who travel it every day.”
With anticipated completion in the summer of 2021, the initiative will also involve LED lighting and new pavement markings to be installed for better visibility, as well as upgrading guide rails.
“The Grand Central Parkway is a major artery across eastern Queens and points beyond,” said Councilman Barry Grodenchick. “The newly connected ramps and lighting will make the roadway safer for motorists, and I look forward to the completion of the project.”
