The Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of New York (TCCNY), in cooperation with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (TECO-NY), donated 50,000 masks this month, soon to be distributed across Queens.

“As New York City carefully embarks upon the road to recovery and rebuild, our future hinges on remaining vigilant and emulating the proven best practices of maximizing safety,” said Acting Queens Borough President Sharon Lee. “The masks were made in Taiwan, which swiftly and effectively contained COVID-19 from the earlier stages of this global pandemic. To not learn from the measures of their success — including the universal use of face masks — would be at our own peril. Queens County is deeply grateful to TCCNY and TECO-NY for this generous, humanitarian contribution of masks to the ‘Borough of Families.’”

The masks will be issued via partner organizations across the borough. The donation helps carry out Lee’s continued efforts in supplying and opening accessibility to personal protection equipment (PPE) to aid essential workers and communities disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic since its beginning.

“This donation signifies the love from the Taiwanese people and shows solidarity with the borough that is home to many Taiwanese Americans,” said TCCNY President Joey Chiang.
