Man charged in fatal Labor Day stabbing in Far Rockaway: NYPD

A 51-year-old man has been arrested in charged in the stabbing death of a 29-year-old in Far Rockaway on Labor Day.

On Monday, Sept. 7, around 3:55 p.m., police arrived to 1034 Beach 20th St., to find Massiah Berkley lying face down on the ground with a stab wound to his chest, according to the NYPD. Paramedics rushed Berkley to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police conducted a canvas of the area for a suspect who was described as wearing blue pants, a yellow shirt and a bucket hat, cops said.

They soon found James Williams, of Far Rockaway, on Beach 22nd Street and Mott Avenue a short time after the stabbing, according to the NYPD. Williams, who matched the description of the suspect, was arrested and charged with murder and criminal possession, according to the police.

The investigation is ongoing.
