An unidentified man riding an e-bike on the Belt Parkway near JFK Airport died after being struck by a car early Wednesday morning, according to the NYPD.

Police from the 106th Precinct in Ozone Park responded to a 911 call just after midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 6 of a vehicle collision on the westbound Belt Parkway near Exit 18B. Upon arrival they discovered the body of a man with severe trauma about the body lying in the roadway unconscious and unresponsive, police said.

EMS responded to the scene of the crash and pronounced the e-bike rider dead.

A preliminary investigation determined the man was operating an e-bike and traveling westbound in the center lane of the Belt Parkway when he was struck by a 2010 Dodge Charger also traveling westbound in the center lane.

The Charger dragged the e-bike and then sideswiped a 2016 Mercedes Benz E400, which was traveling in the left lane. The Charger came to a stop underneath the 130th Street overpass where the operator and four passengers exited the vehicle and fled the location on foot, police said.

The 24-year-old driver of the Mercedes Benz remained at the scene and was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing by the NYPD’s Highway CollisionInvestigation Squad.
