Next week, this summer’s 12th Annual Arnie Mig Memorial Big Band Concert returns to Howard Beach.

State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr., Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato, and the Brady & Bader law firm present this free concert, which will feature swing music played by Frank Pedulla and the Music Staff Swing Orchestra.

The concert will be held on Thursday, Aug. 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the St. Helen’s parking lot, located at the corner of 157th Avenue and 84th Street in Howard Beach. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

The concert honors Arnold “Arnie Mig” Migliaccio, the leader of the Serenaders in Blue Orchestra, which hosted the very first annual swing concert for residents of Howard Beach three decades ago, where they performed Big Band-era jazz music from the 1940s.

“It is an honor to continue to bring the Arnie Mig Memorial Big Band Concert to the Howard Beach community each year,” Addabbo said. “Arnie Mig was a staple in Howard Beach for decades, and he and his band entertained audiences of all ages with his music. I want to thank Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato and the Brady & Bader law firm for their continued partnership in bringing the concert back this year. I’m looking forward to seeing fans of live music there on Aug. 4.”

After Migliaccio died on June 7, 2009, Senator Addabbo began the Arnie Mig Memorial Big Band Concert in 2009 to pay tribute to the beloved musician’s legacy.

“It is wonderful to continue this tradition with Senator Addabbo and bring a special concert to Howard Beach. Live music and dancing with our neighbors is a great way to spend the evening and truly makes this a fun event. I cannot wait to see you all there,” Amato said.

In case of inclement weather, the concert will be postponed to Thursday, Aug. 11.
