A motorized scooter rider was critically injured near the Long Island City waterfront by a hit-and-run driver on Wednesday evening after he crashed into a black Porsche SUV on Vernon Boulevard.

Police from the 108th Precinct in LIC responded to a 911 call of a vehicle collision at 44th Drive and Vernon Boulevard just before 5 p.m. on July 20.

A preliminary investigation determined that an SUV traveling southbound on Vernon Boulevard struck a 30-year-old man operating the scooter westbound on 44th Drive at the Gordon Triangle near the Anable Basin. The man was thrown off the scooter sustaining severe head trauma, police said.

The driver of the Porsche SUV fled the scene. EMS responded and rushed the injured man to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, according to the NYPD.
