An Astoria man who was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Long Island City died late last month, the NYPD announced Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Brendan Marmolejos, 30, of 30th Avenue in Astoria, succumbed to his head injuries on Wednesday, July 27 at Bellevue Hospital, where he was taken by EMS after he was struck by an SUV while riding a motorized scooter on Wednesday, July 20.

Marmolejos was trying to cross at the intersection of 44th Drive and Vernon Boulevard when he was struck by a black Porsche SUV allegedly driven by Dwayne Bovell of 116th Street in Richmond Hill, who drove off, police said.

Bovell turned himself in two days later and was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a serious injury. That charge is expected to be upgraded, according to a police spokesperson.
